so i got sonic unleashed 360 for christmas, i just never motivated myself into playing it until recently.

so i decided to get it over with and give it a go

and holy shit, i'm actually enjoying it.

the sonic sections are mostly fantastic, and, i'm ashamed to say, the wolfhog levels are quite good as well.

that isn't to say it's brilliant, though. it has numerous, clear flaws, particularly about the speed in sonic's sections. although it's rather thrilling to go at top speed when you can, you can encounter some of the worst things on your first go which aren't really your fault due to how fast some obstacles can come. the "somersault under a wall" thing really needs to go, because coming to a complete stop just because you didn't know you had to go under it is a bit annoying. also, spikes can be placed in some of the worst places and you can lose a plethora of rings just because you weren't careful enough to jump every second.

speed itself can be quite hazardous, particularly in the generic ice level, where i found myself slipping off a section many times due to a thin, icy path with both robots and spikes knocking me off whenever they get a bloody chance.

sonic team can just go to hell with the consistent introduction of new characters that are likely only going to stay for one game - especially when they aren't even playable. chip can just fuck right off. just thank god the only real participation that cunt even has is in cutscenes.

quick time events can just go suck a dong.

my only concern with the wolfhog thus far, besides the misnomer that is "werehog", are ocassional balance beams, where control is similar to being drunk in GTA IV.

combat's very good imo.

other than this, though, this is a fantastic game in comparison to the hip-flash of vomit sonic team have been cramming down our throats for the past few years. perhaps entering it with the lowest expectations possible helped.

i'm barely a quarter of the way through, though, so i'm not sure i've had enough time to form a valid opinion yet. something may damn well come up to completely spoil it for me, or something could make me want to violate the disc numerous times.

so far, i'd probably give it around 6, maybe 7/10
